We would like to promote this site as a place where hikers/trekkers and climbers can join a community that is informed and proactive about the mountains they enjoy.

Vertical Endeavour is the embodiment of values, vision, concern and love for mountains.

Our three-pronged approach is:

RESOURCES for knowledge and action - through a web-portal with articles, forums, galleries and downloads.

COMMUNITY that shares ideas, initiates action and unites in issues - catalysed by the web-portal.

AWARENESS of the great heritage we have in these mountains and of issues threatening their well-being - boosted by resources and community.

Specifically for the Drakensberg we stand for:

* Proactive concern regarding the security and environmental threat posed by smugglers and shepherds.

* Crediting, documenting and enjoying the Berg for the world-class mountain range that it is but keeping it preserved and wild!

* A concern not just for the natural resources but for the well-being of the people living there.

* Reviving a local interest in the Berg and stimulating a healthy, sustainable growth in the volume of hikers and climbers.

Specifically for the Himalayas we stand for:

* A concern and awareness of the impacts of global warming on the Himalayas.

 * Poverty alleviation and upliftment of the communities living there through means that ultimately free them from a dependence on outside intervention.

* Promoting eco-friendly practices in the trekking areas among lodge owners, climbing and trekking guides, and large trekking groups.

* Enjoyable, affordable and safe mountaineering for the "average" person, particularly on peaks in the 5000m and 6000m range.
