This is a very nice 8.2 Km round trip hike to the top of platberg. (+- 3 hours walk ) Park your car at about 1900m altitude and this is the route start, the pass goes up to 2400m to the weather station over a 4.1km stretch and is rewarded with beautiful views. Quite a steep walk but nothing serious, plenty of water on the route. 1L water bottle will suffice. |

General emergency procedures for accidents in South African mountains. Includes procedures for when a group member is lost, what do to when an accident/injury happens, how to arrange for a rescue and be rescued, and provides some detail on helicopter rescue. This document is Chapter 11 of the South African Mountain Leadership Guide. It was originally released in the 1980's and is no longer in print. The Mountain Club of South Africa - Magaliesberg section kindly gave permission to the South African Mountaineering Development & Training Trust (MDT) to retype the material and publish it in PDF format. Through it the MDT and MCSA hope to promote safe use of our mountains. The material is available on the MDT website, and this download is simply a link to that source. |
