So the Cathedral Peak Hotel is taking the KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department to court over the state of the roads leading to the hotel. Good for them, I'm thinking!

It's Fire and Wind Season in the Berg

August through to October is normally a period of strong winds in the Drakensberg. This is accompanied by many fires, which are fuelled by the wind and the dryness. A major fire broke out at Cathedral Peak on Wednesday.

Mweni Centre wins Jet Community Award

The Mweni Cultural Centre won a Jet Community Award in the "Vukuzenzele (Small Enterprise)” category for the KwaZulu Natal region, at the end of October.

Paragliding accident in the Drakensberg

Critically injured after crashing into the mountains while paragliding on Monday, 25 January, 2010, a man was airlifted to Pietermaritzberg’s Medi Clinic, where he remains in a serious condition.

2009 Water for Africa Mnweni Marathon

Saturday, 16 May was host to the 2009 Water for Africa Mnweni Marathon in the Northern Drakensberg. The circular 38Km route begins at the Mnweni Cultural Centre, follows the Mnweni river upstream, then climbs steeply to the Lesotho summit via the Mnweni Pass to the "Source of the Orange".

Development in the Maloti-Drakensberg area for 2010 and beyond

The Maloti-Drakensberg trans-frontier area was one of the special areas listed for investment and development, starting 2010, at a recent conference held under the Boundless Southern Africa banner involving several countries within the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
