A hiker was airlifted from Bannerman Cave on 22 March 2009, after sustaining a head injury.

During an ascent of Bannerman Pass, the hiker had pulled on a rock which came loose, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on another rock behind him. He sustained a cut to the head. He completed the ascent of the pass but started feeling the affects of concussion on reaching Bannerman Cave. He was airlifted out in an Oryx helicopter, the rescue co-ordintaed by a team from the MCSA and EMRS, and taken to Grey's Hospital for treatment.
