TOPIC: Aircraft crashes

Aircraft crashes 03 Jan 2008 22:38 #29

This thread continues from on from this one posted eslewhere.

This has me intrigued....is the gully you are talking about visible on this photo?

The only helicopters that would be authorised to fly there would either be the ones from Cathedral Peak hotel or the army.

Did you see it from far away? Another possibility is that it was a cow which was stolen by Basuthos. One of the cattle rustling routes is along the Bell Traverse and there are many carcases along the route. I once saw a cow fall down Grays Pass close hand....it was rather grim...

Keep the Berg clean, keep the Berg free!

If it was not so long ago (BB maybe you can fill us in) surely there would be other reports elsewhere, and it may be worth a trip up either ntonj or mlambonja to investigate. Perhaps we could arrange an easter cave trip to look into it, if it indeed was a chopper...?

Having being reading a couple of books on accidents in the mountains, this topic also intrigues me. Have been getting desperate to get back to the Cathedral section again...
Lets all help maintain the values for which the Berg was proclaimed a World Heritage Site

Gees, it been so long (2000?). You're right, it could have been a cow. Where I was standing I could see the whole cathedral range, and all gulleys. It seems the gully I remember was almost where the range joins the main escarpment. Someday, but not this year, i'll process my film.
