Have been using the Purple House in Winterton as a stop-over on the way to areas such as Injasuthi, Cathedral Peak and Monk's Cowl (saves getting there late and pitching tents). It's a great place and good value for money at R200 pp. Self-catering chalets and breakfast is also available. The associated Pixie Lounge (restaurant, pub and lounge) is an excellent compliment. Might want to try the caravan park in Bergville. I was unfortunate to have my car break down there and had to find a place to stay for the night and this was the cheapest. R150 for the night for the chalet. Self catering. The bed was very comfortable, which could be great if you have a long hike ahead. Passed the Purple house on numerous occasions, I must have a look some time....
