TOPIC: first time hike

first time hike 14 May 2011 21:57 #2869

Hi we are planning a trip in August up to Mafadi via centenary hut and corner pass.
Does anyone know what the water situation is like up that way?
Also is there anyone that can offer up any advise and tips for me?

Thank you very much

Hi dude

Welcome to VE. Gr8 to see newer members using the site. If you go to the search function at the top right of the page, you can search on corner pass as there has been a fair amount of discussion on this pass. I would suggest you go through it and then ask questions based on that. In short though, it will take you at least 5 hours to the hut from iNjisuthi and another 6 or so up the pass depending on snow etc. - I would do this over two days.

You would also need to be well equipped with the right gear as snow collects in this pass and sticks around for a while - Check this link out for images of snow in corner pass. www.vertical-endeavour.com/forums/11-drakensberg-passes/1227-corner-pass.html?limit=6&start=6

Welcome Janine.

Due to the popularity of this route I've updated my bookmarking project on Delicious and added a new tag called "Centenary-Hut-Corner-Pass-Mafadi-Leslies-Pass" to tag all relevant forum threads, write-ups, pictures and downloads. See www.delicious.com/intrepid_ve/Centenary-Hut-Corner-Pass-Mafadi-Leslies-Pass - heaps of info in there, will keep you busy for a while. As ST mentioned, feel free to ask more questions after that.
