Cave on Yodlers Ridge

On the long weekend we found this cave on our way from Didima cave to the "highway" path on the ridge.
It has obviously been used before with a rock wall, and has a path on the last 50m to the cave.
It could comfortably sleep 6, and probably 8
It's located below Yodlers Ridge Peak at 3220m -29.08079 29.266

Anyone know if this has a name?

Mike in Reido Cave on morning 5 of the double GT:

It does raise an interesting question - why are there so many really good caves around there?

I would guess that the frequency of caves is down to the chemistry of the Stormberg basalt. There are two basic types of high berg caves - overhangs like Mponjwane, Mbundini, Twins, Bell and Ledgers and 'blow hole' caves like Crows nest, Upper Injisuthi, Rolands and Rat Hole. It is plausible that the overhangs are simply what now remain of a blow hole that has been eroded back over the years.

Those 'blow hole' caves are likely formed by gas in the lava. If there was plenty of gas when the lava was solidifying, then there will be blow hole caves once the rock is exposed to the slope or surface.

Reido and this new cave were/are not marked on maps - only Didima and then Nkosazana so that I have always thought of the area as being sparse on caves! GPS and internet forums have altered the power of maps.

There is also this cave used by smugglers in the valley just north of Grays / Nkosazana
Very well sheltered going in left and right from the entrance

I've noticed that the majority of blow-hole caves are on fissures. It is notable that there is a fissure that runs between Cathkin and Sterkhorn, forms the summit gully of Grey's, runs over Pampiring near Reido, and runs through Yodeler's right next to Didima Cave (the gap with the large cairn). This one is pretty obvious on Google Earth, and is fairly straight till it crosses over into Lesotho - where it bends a bit before dying. Smurf's Cave isn't that close to this fissure, though.

I'm confused - valley north of Nkosasana? I'm guessing you are referring to the valley between Nkosasana Peak and Pampiring? Do you have a GPS co-ord? Looks like a decent shelter.

Well technically west, at about -29.073811 29.308753
There is a high path to it from the nose if we heading towards Grays, the main path drops down a bit after the nose

From the positioning of the caves as indicated on the map by Smurfatefrog, it looks more like Yodlers cave. Reido looks like it is further away from Didima cave. Which is therefore the correct name for the cave?
