Afriski shared a few images of an unexpected light snowfall that occurred yesterday:

Edit: Snow Report SA also shared Brendan Day's photographs showing some light snowfalls in the Black Mountain region, near Sani Pass

Edit 2: There was also a covering of snow at the amphitheatre. Pic courtesy of Christeen Field

Just noticed this morning that Cathedral Peak hotel now have two webcams with different and improved views, they have also improved the picture quality and have a time lapse playback facility. You need to access this via their web page and not the link at the bottom of the page. Maybe Intrepid can fix this when he returns from his Mweni adventure.

I will attempt to incorporate all four views into one page, else at least more links to get all of them.

If anyone finds changes to existing webcams, or new ones, please let me know.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

The current forecast is indicating a chance of moderate snow (5-10cm) on some of the higher peaks of the Southern and Central Berg on Sunday. For the time being it appears that only 3200/3300m+ peaks will be affected.

Despite the relatively high freezing levels, there was a surprising light ground snow accumulation at Sani Pass yesterday!

Image Tweeted by Brian at Sani Top yesterday:

There was also reports of some light accumulation at the Letseng Diamond Mine and the high peaks at Drakensberg Gardens, as well as some flurries at Afriski.

As a cold front makes its way across South Africa, parts of the Drakensberg may be in for some snow on Wednesday and Thursday.

At the moment it seems most of the snow will fall in Central Lesotho, although peaks in the far north like Mont-Aux-Sources currently have up to 17cm forecast.

Light snow is forecast for the escarpment between Lotheni and Bushmans Nek, getting heavier towards the Eastern Cape Drakensberg, where up to 12cm is forecast (Ben Macdhui)

Temperatures are also expected to plummet from Wednesday, with freezing levels dropping below 2200m in the South.

Hi Gerrit

You can check out www.snow-forecast.com/maps/dynamic/southafrica

and www.mountain-forecast.com/

Edit: And heres a custom windguru spot for the Chain Ladders www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?vs=1&sc=314669 , no snow forecast there this week unfortunately. There is a chance for next week though, although long range forecasts are notoriously inaccurate. (Dark blue font in precipitation row = snow)
