Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.
Dragons Wrath 2022 was created by intrepid
This is the place to gather and discuss all accidents and rescues in the Drakensberg for 2022. The most common are hiking related, though they can also result from other activities such as climbing and paragliding. This title of this thread is inspired by the book "Dragons Wrath" by Reg Pearse & James Byrom, and is an endeavour to continue on in that spirit.
The purpose of this is to:
* concatenate all information about these accidents to keep a concerned Drakensberg community informed;
* express solidarity and concern for those involved in the accidents;
* learn from mistakes made and to heed warnings of risks;
* maintain a publicly accessible historic record.
The purpose of this is not to:
* criticise or embarrass those involved;
* create media hype;
* create undue negative publicity for the Berg.

There was a very recent incident where a taxi rolled off the Sani Pass road - there were some injuries.

Not entirely sure. At the very least an empty thread here could mean that nothing serious happened involving hikers and climbers. There may well have been incidents where hikers get a little lost, or where ankles are twisted and assistance is needed - these are examples of incidents that don't always make it onto this thread. Can members please jog their memories of 2022 and see if we missed anything?A safe year?

Three deaths in the taxi on Sani.
Also a murder at Cathkin Park in December - Alex Willcox’s daughter.
Alex Willcox himself was murdered 30 years ago at or near the same property. Alex was an author and archaeologist and an expert in Rock Art. He was RO Pearse’s Neighbour and friend. Pearse was in JHB for an op when Alex got shot through his window and thus didn’t return to his home for his last few years of life. I think Pearse refers to him in Barrier of Spears.
