Snow on top of Amphiteatre, clouds lifted an hour ago and revealed first snows in Northern Berg for the season. Have a lovely view of it from my house below Babangaboni.

Hope there is some snow left next week when we do a mini traverse from sentinel to cathedral.

Just got back from the Amphitheatre. Quite a good snowfall there. It even snowed on us while we were on the top. Some places have accumulated 15+ cm of snow. We took some boys up with us who had never seen snow before and they had an awesome time. It was very cold though and so we did not stay the night. Going back to the Berg with another group of boys on Tuesday. Heading off to Gray's Pass. Think there will still be a good covering up there too.

Seems like last weeks fall was just the warm up, big cold front arriving tonight. Got this warning from SA Weather:

"2. Very cold and windy conditions are expected over the western interior of KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, while remaining very cold over the high lying areas of the western interior as well as the Free State on Wednesday. 3. Significant snowfalls are expected on the southern Drakensberg on Tuesday"

Today's satellite image reveals fair snow cover remaining on the Amphitheatre / Tlaeng / Afriski area, as well as around Thabana Ntlenyana and on Leqooa Ridge in the southern Berg.

Smudges of cover are also still on the high ridges around Champagne Castle, Mafadi, Giant's Castle, and the Central Range in Lesotho.

Unbelievable!
were there 3 weeks ago with ST out from Aus, and now look at it!
am sure that the unnamed pass we did, and the descent of wilson,s, may not have been quite as simple as it was though.

So the second wave of snow hit on the 15th, mainly in the southern Berg as predicted. The sat images clearly show this. Lots of snow from Sehlabathebe to Qacha's Neck, Ben McDhui, and heaps right on the Dragon's tail at Xalanga. Barkly Pass was closed to traffic. Lady Grey and the Witteberg had a significant fall too. Snow also evident further down in the Cape.

Spent Tuesday night in a campsite in the Kamberg region, unfortunately no snow there, but the mercury did drop to -10°C that night!
