We headed to Vergelegen at 05h00 on Friday Morning.
As we approached via the Loteni Valley road we could see a mantle over the mountains which lifted at about 07h30.
The entire visible area was covered to contour level. We started walking at 09h00 and by the time we had entered Mhlalangubo Pass proper at least 60% of the morning cover was gone.
Scant patches on top south, although from Redi north to Giant and G Ridge was still well covered, although it always seems to catch it.
Lowest temp recorded was -1.4 in Lynx Cave on Fri. night, the gully and South facing cliffs were still snowed up.

Its been quite a dismal snow season so far. That said I am predicting one big snow dump in September sometime. Any thoughts?

Yea, the 2010 snow season has been nothing short of pathetic so far. But September often has a brutal cold front with snow all the way to Nottingham Road, so heres hoping!

I would guess definitely one, maybe 2 dumps still to come. Anytime in September for the first one would be a pretty safe bet.

Better late than never I suppose! Went on a camping trip at Garden Castle for the weekend, and yesterday morning we awoke to see the mountains completely white down to around 2300m. Although we hadnt planned to do any hiking, we couldnt resist the urge to climb into it, was really great

Thanks Plouw, ja about time I had some good timing! The scenery was absolutely mind blowing, theres something about the contrast of snow against new bright green grass that makes late spring snow look so amazing. I've been having loads of error messages when I try upload, but will try post a few more. B)

Yay, finally some snow again! Although, I was on the KZN South Coast wondering why it was so cold on Saturday...

There was too much cloud cover to get a good satellite view of it, by the time the clouds cleared, the best part of it was gone. On the 721 colour spectrum, the snow can clearly be seen though - the turquoise in the centre of the pic below shows snow throughout most of the KZN Berg, as well as the high range around Oxbow/Afriski/Tlaeeng Pass and the Central Range of Lesotho.

@jonwells: very fortunate with the timing and great pics! About problems with attaching photos to a thread, please PM me with the details, or start another thread.
