Thanks everyone.

I have another question: survival bag - yes / no?

The K-way survival bag travels with me on most mountain excursions as a space-blanket alternative, but it weighs 400g. Now I am pondering whether a survival bag or just a space blanket would be better (space blanket for insulation from floor). We do carry an already-heavy K-way tent that is supposedly waterproof, but I do picture a situation where I am in my down sleeping bag, in a wet cave, and would have wanted the survival bag as a drip protector.

Overkill or necessary?

It is always a tough judgement call - I only started carrying an emergency bag a few months back, but since my bivy bag arrived 2 days ago, I won't be carrying it again. I usually use my emergency bag as a ground mat under my sleeping bag, but don't carry a space blanket in addition to an emergency bag.

If I was carrying a tent, I wouldn't bother to carry an emergency bag (bearing in mind that a tent can be used as an improvised emergency bag - although it may trash your tent).

Ps. 198 days since I last hiked with a tent :woohoo:
