Haha. Depends on your definition of freeze. A lot of us hikers regard those temperatures as rather warm :-)
Make sure they have proper sleeping bags (not "Checkers specials") and they should be fine.

So nearly a year later and we are finally going on that planned Hiking trip with the kids. They are a bit older (thank goodness - so they can carry a little more stuff). We are planning to do the Lower Injisuthi route over Easter. Is there anyone else planning a trip over Easter? It would be fun bumping into some Vertical Endeavour Friends.
I would also appreciate any advice or tips for our trip.

Good choice, we will be camping at Injesuthi over Easter and doing day hikes.

PS Have you booked the caves as it gets really busy over Easter ?

Yes we have booked - First night in the Lower Injisuthi Cave and second night in Grindstone Cave. I'm a bit worried about the distances. The first day 12km and the second day 12km and then 6km back to camp? I don’t know of any other overnight route that would be a good one for a first time with kids.

Less than that, closer to 8km, 8km and 4km. Its also fairly flat, the only climb you'll have is from Marble Baths on day 2, but I'm sure you'll have a nice rest stop at the baths before this.

It's actually even shorter at 7.5 km and about 350 m of altitude gain.

Here is a profile from LIC via Marble baths to Grindstone cave and back to camp

Hi Leone, I was at Marble Baths over the weekend and met a family who had attempted to get to Marble Baths via Grindstone, they had complained that the trail is quite overgrown in the valley between Grindstone and Marble Baths. I had attempted the same route you're contemplating from Marble Baths to Grindstone Cave in October last year and found the trail to be completely over grown in places especially in the river bed and further up the valley - so much so that I abandoned trying to follow the hiking trail and decided to follow the game trails just to summit the ridge above Grindstone. Smaller kids may not enjoy the bushwacking, my 10year old son certainly did'nt.
