Thank you Captain - I just phoned the Injisuthi camp office and they also said that it is extremely overgrown from Marble Bath to Grindstone. Not advised to do with kids or first timers.
Thinking to maybe still do first night in Lower Injisuthi cave then second day walking to marble Bath and have a rest and walking back to Lower Injisuthi Cave for second night then back to camp the next day? (Have to check availability for second night at Lower Injisuthi Cave though)
OR
If anyone knows of another route we could do with the kids? We really want to do an overnight hike.

Great to hear you're taking the kids out hiking. This is something very close to my heart - my son (who just turned 5 now in Feb) slept out in caves on 3 separate occasions last year!
I was just about to suggest the same thing and then I saw Captain beat me to it. I think the kids would've definitely taken a bit of strain on that climb up to the contour path before heading down to Grindstone.
I suggest sleeping at Marble Baths Cave the second night rather than Grindstone. That way, there's no rush at all to leave LIC, you can take as long as you like to hike around to Marble Baths and there's plenty of time to swim and explore the area when you get there.
Or even better still, go to MB Cave the first night and then head to Lower Injisuthi on the second night - save the best for last!

Thank for the reply - But I should have mentioned that Marble bath is fully booked the whole of Easter
They only had Lower Injisuthi and Grindstone Cave available.

If that's the case, see if you can book Lower Injisuthi for a second night. Then, when you get to the camp office, check the mountain register, speak to the staff etc and try and find out how many people are heading to Marble Baths ahead of you. There are two caves at Marble Baths roughly 100m apart, if it's a small group that has booked the cave, there's a good chance they will only use one of them. Take a chance and use the other one. Actually, this raises another question, how many people are in your group?
Failing this, a 2 night stay at Lower Injisuthi wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. A full day of exploration in the valley upstream and swimming in the pools below the cave would certainly make for a fantastic trip. LIC is quite possibly one my favorites...

Thank you Dillon. I have just booked two night at LIC. It will just be 2 adults and 2 children in our group. Will definitely find out about the second cave at Marble bath when we get there.

2 Adults and 2 Kids would fit perfectly in Marble Baths Annex (the second cave)

I was also going to comment on the overgrown path but that's been covered!
It just so happens that I am taking a bunch of first timers (not kids) to LIC this weekend and am looking forward to it, it is one of my favourite areas. Also it's really great to see you getting the youngsters involved early on. Nice work.
I hope to do a quick climb of the Western triplet on Sunday morning while the others sleep in!

Thank you Viking. Enjoy your hike and climb this weekend. Please let me know what the weather was like after. We have had some chilly days in Richards Bay so i assume it will be Freezing in the berg.

Regarding the condition of the trails, I'm not one to complain about the state of the trails, I actually enjoy the wilderness feel to these trails. If the existing trails are allowed to degrade this will likely cause more erosion as people who 'lose' the trail then take a shortcut to get to where they're going. Maintenance on trails in the lower 'berg are in my humble opinion necessary for the enjoyment of most users, especially younger children.
I'm just wondering if the trails in the EKZN Wildlife areas are not being maintained due to budgetary cuts, EKZNW policy or possible incompetence. On more than a few occasions I've overheard people complaining about lack of trail maintenance. Anyone have an idea regarding EKZNW and trail maintenance?
