Guys, I have a hike planned for the 12/13/14 February. The focus is photography, but anyone is welcome and there is no rush to get from A to B. I plan to do the ka Pitoli Loop at Lotheni:
(Day 1) From office hike up the Lotheni Pass smugglers route which goes up the Elandshoek River. I will tent near Killer Ridge (8kms)
(Day 2) From Killer Ridge up on to Ka Pitoli Ridge and then via the bottom of Lotheni Pass to tent some where bottom of eNtubeni Pass (8kms)
(Day 2 Option) Up Lotheni Pass and down eNtubeni Pass
(Day 3) Back to office via Ash Cave/Lotheni River (8kms)

Yes it is an amazing little gem this spot.  A friend and I did a trip there in 2018, and were amazed at the tarn and rock formations that we saw.   Seems like you had a narrow escape from the lightning

 I hiked this last weekend to near The Hawk hoping to get some snow photos, but most of the snow had melted over Saturday night due to the warm temps. As you can see the color of the veld is changing rapidly:

The far away peaks are nicely covered in snow :-)

I really hope we get more snow this year, it's been few and far between the last 2 years for me. The new solar minimum we're entering should help in this regard I suppose.
