Injusuthi 4-5 day hike

Greetings

I am wanting to do a 4-5 day hike leaving and returning to Injasuthi camp next month (August). I have all the gear and am fairly experienced . It would be nice to summit for one or two nights. Can anyone assist with route options. (GPX files) I will be taking my tent so no need to sleep in caves unless recommended. Is it safe for me to consider doing this hike alone and what would be advised to stay out of trouble. I will have my Garmin 66i so can plot the route on basecamp. If its not advisable to solo this area and anyone is keen to join, please get in touch. Would prefer one other person. Any additional info and tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

The most obvious hike would be doing Mafadi over 4 days, lots to read here: www.vertical-endeavour.com/forum/drakenberg-hiking-injisuthi/53639-corner-pass-judge-pass,-mafadi,-leslie-s-pass-loop.html
Corner pass might be snowed and iced up, so you might feel more comfortable using Judge pass

Welcome to VE Biocentric!

Have a read on this forum, there are lots of trip reports in and around the Injasuthi area you can use to plan your hike. You can also download tracks of all the passes in the area. I should have a track or two for you if you are interested - send me an email on this website's emailing function then we can discuss it offline.

Iin short though, for a typical 4 or 5 day hike you can look at doing the Leslies/Corner pass loop. In either direction. You can also expand it to include Judges, or around the Corner passes, or even throw in Ships Prow if you are up for a challenge.

There are a bunch of decent caves around this area, so you can consider leaving your tent if you want to go light.

In principle, I would advise you to hike with at least one other person. Not only for the safety and security reasons, but absolutely in the case of a medical emergency.

I agree with having at least one other person with you on the hike, preferrably two.

However, for me, a tent is mandatory on the escarpment, you never know where you might need to pitch and/or the cave you chose might be occupied.

Thanks Sabine, I am in discussions with a guide recommended from Injasuthi camp. We busy planning a trip where he will be in the near vicinity but not with me all the time. I have a set of two way radios which will keep us in contact. This will hopefully allow me to have the solitude I am seeking with the peace of mind that someone is close by and reachable if needed. Excited for this trip.

Howzit RiaangThanks for your input, from what I have gathered, it’s not recommended to do this route solo. I have done a few lower berg trips solo which I feel are safe, but agree, summiting is a different story and one shouldn’t take unnecessary risks out on the mountain. I have therefor got in contact with a guide who is going to walk within 10- 15 min from me. We will have two way radios to stay in touch but we have agreed that I will hike on my own but he will be fairly close by in case things get real.

It would freak me out having someone stalking me from behind, always out of sight...
