Thanks Jon
Quite a useful feature, saves me looking at loads of graphs of data

Hi Jon
Read that we are having a small and late El-Nina effect.  How long do these go on for?  Seeing lots of clouds over Cathedral Peak, but still no rain figures on the French website, and Ventusky is still showing monthly anomoly of -70mm for Cathedral Peak.  Given how much cloud and the forcast there must be heavy rain fallng up in the berg.  Is SAWS still out of commission.
Thanks
Karl

Hey ST, I wont comment on El-Nino as I'm no expert in that respect I'm afraid!  But I can see that the SA Weather Service issue is seemingly coming right now.  The alternative site for weather data that I mentioned earlier is now starting to show data again from our stations, so might be worth having a look.

www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynext?lang=en&state=South+A&rank=100&ano=2025&mes=02&day=26&hora=11&Send=send
The above link should show all the available weather stations in SA, around 96 of them.  They include some close to the berg like Royal Natal, Giant's Castle, and Shaleburn.
This specific link shows all of them in a ranked order for a specific date, so you can easily see which was the hottest, coldest, rainiest etc.

If you click on a station name, it will pull up the history for that station.  Its a bit un-user friendly, but you can change the dates by adjusting the numbers in the url

Eg the below link shows the 60 day history for Shaleburn, where "ano" is the year, "mes" is the month, "day" is the day, "hora" is the hour, "min" is the minute, and "ndays" is the number of days history you wish to see.
www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?lang=en&ind=68572&ano=2025&mes=2&day=26&hora=11&min=0&ndays=60

That's a useful resource on Ventusky.

It's worth remembering, though, that the data on precip anomalies comes from a numerical weather prediction model and, given it is GFS, a relatively course resolution model. Rainfall and convection are indirectly resolved in the models (through parameterisation) and given how much rainfall is of convective origin, the errors in the model (i.e. differences between what the model calculates and what actually happened) will be large.

Much better to have the actual data measured on the ground and available...unless the site is hacked
