Hiking around Rhodes EC - Questions

Good day all.

We're planning a little visit down to Rhodes Eastern Cape late May and as such keen to stretch our legs in the hills a bit.
Now I've been reading this thread:

But would love to know more, such as...

1. Which physical maps would or could I use?
2. Any recommendations?
3. Are there many hikes around, is it mostly on private land?
4. If so do we have to negotiate.
5. Will the Rand ever improve.
6. Are Hobbits real?
7. Am I running out of questions...?

So just general knowledge I suppose.
