"A group of hikers had to jump into a river in order to save themselves from a bee attack."
We met the people involved in this incident, they were camping at Pillar cave. I saw the incident was not mentioned on the forum. They told us they heard from the medic there was a death due to bee stings the previous week in the same area, however that was not confirmed by the news report and I don't see it mentioned online.
It's not really something that most people think of, but the story was pretty horrific, a massive unrelenting swarm of bees that attacked for an unknown cause, children and adults were covered in stings. One member of party in anaphylactic shock needing a shot of adrenaline which thankfully was administered by a medic. They were underwater to avoid the bees but had to get out eventually as the water was very cold.
Good idea to pack some anti-histamines in your first aid bag, even if you're not allergic! And avoid Pillar cave if you are allergic to bees.
