This is the thread for the next round of photo competitions. The theme is Perspectives on a Peak, and for this round it is all about Monk's Cowl. Entries should be photos that present interesting and artistic angles on Monk's Cowl peak, which highlight the magnificent peak that it is. Photos do not need to be limited to the actual time period for the competition.
Photos should be uploaded to the following album:
www.vertical-endeavour.com/gallery/drakensberg/featured-images/peak-perspectives-monks-cowl-apr-jun-2014.html
Some general guidelines for the competition:
* Give your entry a creative title which adds to the appeal of the image.
* When you have uploaded your entry, post a downscaled copy of your image to this thread, together with your title, and a link to the image, as well as a description of where the shot was taken from, and the story behind the photograph.

I have posted an image onto the Peak Perspectives for the Apr-Jun 2014. It is entitled 'Perspectives of Man' Taken in the Vultures Retreat area, not far from the top of Grays Pass.
In 2006 ST2 and myself did a trip specifically to photograph the Cape griffins at Vultures retreat. (Here is the link to the Getaway mag article www.architectphotographs.com/Published-Work/Scenic.htm)
Brad decided to walk around the watershed of Nkhosazana Cave.
Toward the end of the his walk, and the afternoon, I was waiting for the next spill of vultures off the cliffs and swung my lens across to the Cowl and spotted him looking across at it.
It made for an interesting perspective of the size of man in comparison to the creation.

Perspective On Peaks (Under The Watchful Eye Of The Monk)I took this photo coming down Grays Pass. Monks Cowl was covered in mist most of the way down and suddenly the mist lifted and there stood the Monk watching down on us. The focus was on the hikers in relation to the massive surrounding cliffs and peaks.

Hi Rich
You need to put this into the gallery under 'Peak Perspectives' and then put a link from this topic to the gallery, otherwise it can't be voted on.
Go to the user panel and up load it - www.vertical-endeavour.com/gallery/drakensberg/featured-images/peak-perspectives-monks-cowl-apr-jun-2014.html

When I did Sterkhorn last year I got a few decent shots of the local bird life:
Sadly my one with Monk's Cowl in the background didn't come out particularly well
And my photos of Monk's Cowl from the top of Sterkhorn weren't too impressive either...
So my entry will be "Ominous Monk" taken on 9 June 2013 on Gray's Pass with ASL:
Taken with a Fujifilm Finepix Bridge Camera, about 6X optical zoom used, no tripod or flash. About 8:30AM. The only editing on the photo after taking it was resizing it down from 14 megapixels in order to upload it.

Title: "Presiding at the Delmhlwazini"
We spent six glorious days at Injisuthi camp at the end of April 2014. It was my wife and I, my dad and mom, and my brother and his wife and young child. The first snow had just fallen a few days before, and the remnants of that snow could still be seen over Mafadi.
I took a brisk walk up the Delmhlwazini valley in the late afternoon, as a final preparation for the Cockade hike i was about to embark on in the day after next.
I climbed a grassy knoll (after wading through brambles), and upon reaching the top, sat down, and basked in the splendour of what lay before me. I will remember and treasure this view until I am old and grey.
I used an iPhone. No filter. No editing.
