This is the thread for the 4th round of the 2015 photo competitions. The theme is GREEN, anything showing the berg looking great after removing its winter coat.

Guidelines for the competition:
* Give your entry a creative title which adds to the appeal of the image.
* When you have uploaded your entry, post a downscaled copy of your image to this thread, together with your title, and a link to the image, as well as a description of where the shot was taken from, and the story behind the photograph.
* Photos do not need to be limited to the actual time period for this round.
* One entry per member.
* Closing date for entries: 31 December 2015
* Winner announcement date: 12 January 2016

My entry for this round - "Castle of the Eland"

Taken in the Hidden Valley en route to Mzimude Pass, just above Curtain Cave. The hike report can be found here .

Later on the hike we saw the rest of the herd of eland (below Mzimude Pass), just to give context of the numbers:

Distant Shades of Green

Ghaznavid and Hobbit heading up Langalibalele Pass (from a few years ago, i seem to mainly hike in april and sept when everything is yellow/brown/black

That was a good hike - that hail storm on the second day was rather hectic though! I'll never forget having that long chat to Jason (a Mosotho, I can still picture him wearing his bright red pants). He spoke really good English (having lived in Durban for something like 7 years) and was full of fascinating information about the surrounding mountains.
