If there were something like 200 people attempting to summit at the same time, it means there was about 20 million USD involved, at roughly 100k per "expedition"... And that just on one day... How much were the Sherpas getting? Bugger the climbers and their dreams. They should nationalise Everest... All the money should go to Nepalese.

DStv channel 121 on Sunday, 18 May at 21:00

Discovery Channel will broadcast a 60-minute documentary titled Everest Avalanche Tragedy on Sunday, May 18 at 21:00.

The special documentary will include unprecedented access and eyewitness accounts from the rescue and recovery efforts that took place after the avalanche struck the Khumbu Icefall, the area just above Mt. Everest base camp, during the morning of Friday, April 18, killing 13 and leaving three missing.

Discovery’s live special, Everest Jump Live was scheduled to air in June of 2014 when the avalanche hit. The special would have featured climber Joby Ogwyn’s attempt to make the first wing suit flight off the summit of the world's tallest mountain.

“We were at Mt. Everest to make history, but instead we were there as eyewitnesses to a tragedy,” said Eileen O'Neill, Group President, Discovery, Science and Velocity Networks. “It is essential to tell this story and honour all the Sherpas who lost their lives.”

Everest Avalanche Tragedy will document the weeks leading up to the climb through the moment the avalanche struck the Khumba Icefall, one of the most treacherous parts of the mountain, and its aftermath. Cameras rolled immediately following, as blocks of ice plummeted down the mountain, making it the deadliest single-day avalanche in history on Mt. Everest.

Through eyewitness accounts, viewers will hear from those who experienced this horrible tragedy and aftermath including sit down interviews with Joby Ogwyn; Expedition Leader Garrett Madison, who played a critical role in the recovery; Todd Burleson, president of Alpine Ascents International who lost five Sherpas; and other key members of the expedition and production teams.

Checked on the PVR TV Guide, trying to set to record for me. It does not show this broadcast on the TV guide.

Wonder if they moved it?

Apparently its not being aired now... no idea why

I downloaded it a few days ago, so looks like that might be the best option at the moment

Very tragic news! A few South Africans are over there including one I know. (Donna - mentioned on this forum previously)

Obviously the key focus for now are the areas most affected, but I can't help wonder how, in the long run, the incidents of last year and last weekend will affect Everest trips of the future in terms of the standard route and for that matter all routes from the south side.

BTW - the reason Donna is there this year is because she was also there last year when the season got cancelled!
