This report details an exploratory hike in the Busingatha Valley, visiting and overnighting in Singathi cave, exploring a route up the Inner Tower Gully and visits to rock art sites. It also seeks to provide recommendations for future hiking parties, as well as possible action to be taken by the AmaZizi Wilderness Group to facilitate such hikes.
Submitted to the AmaZizi Wilderness Group and the African Conservation Trust in April 2014.
Here's the full Mont Aux Sources Challenge route.
I personally despise the gully!
The section from Witsieshoek to the car park is tedious and on a warm day can be torture on the way down again.
This is a short description based on my personal experience i.r.o. the Marble Baths - Leslies Pass Terrace Route. It may not prove too useful to others as it was originally transcribed to crystallize my own thoughts at the time. I trust it can help others to find the route.
GPS data for the trails from the Mnweni Cultural Centre to the Five Star Cave / Junction U13 area. Shows numerous variations in addition to the "middle" and "upper" routes (which are arguably the main routes for hikers) Note: there are many small variations upstream of Mlambu's Kraal which can be a bit confusing at times.
Trip report by a group of hikers who completed the Bell Traverse in April 2007. Has some useful insights and photos for those who are collecting information prepare for their own attempt at the traverse.
Humorous account of a group of inexperienced hikers that attempted the traverse between Organ Pipes and Mlambonja at Cathedral Peak, but, after ascending Organ Pipes Pass via The Camel, landed up descending the Thuthumi Ridge Route instead. A detailed trip report, with lots of pictures, that serves as a good reminder of the serious realities of hiking in the Drakensberg, especially for beginners.
