First over night hike
Let me start off by introducing myself my name is Tertius im 25 and from jhb,im new here and relatively new to hiking/outdoors.
Ive come to really enjoy the outdoors and I like anything adventurous!ive been on a few day hikes and would now like to try out my first overnight hike,So my question is where would you guys suggest for a 2day overnight hike thats not to hectic,im going with a few friends that are relatively fit but for a first one we would like to do an easy/moderate hike, pitch a tent or sleep in a cave and then head back the next day.I live in jhb so about a 3hour drive is fine for a weekend.
any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanx Tertius

In terms of the time you want to spend travelling I wouldn't go further south than Injesuthi.
If you are tenting then your options are limited only by your imagination. You could head up the chain ladders from witsieshoek (there is a dedicated thread for this and related trips) or spend a night tenting in Didima, Monks Cowl or Injesuthi areas.
My suggestions for relatively easy caving trips would be Xeni or Shermans cave in the Didima area or Lower Injesuthi or Marble Baths caves in the Didima area.
If you spend enough time searching, there is a fair bit of info for first timers on this forum.
A note to the mods: perhap a dedicated/sticky beginners thread is required.

im gona search the forums now for more info on the places you suggested, okey i know this is a dumb question but here goes anyway:when going on an overnight hike are there dedicated camping spots or can i just camp anywhere along the route?

But asking for a specific area to camp in is not a dumb question. In the lower berg areas are often uneven, overgrown or not near water.
There are some "hiker made" camping areas which are always useful to know the location of.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Enjoy! There are 2 caves there, so check both out & decide which best suits you.Toris wrote: Thanx for all the suggestions guys, ive booked the marble bath cave at injesuthi for next saterday, its a bit further than i wanted to travel but thats okey!
The one on the left is generally better, and should take 6 people comfortably

I think I may be the only VE member who has never been to Marble Baths
