Hi all!
So, with a proper easter holiday ahead of us, who will be heading into the berg and where?
A friend and I will hike from Cathedral Peak Hotel to the Amphitheater. We hope to fit in the following climbs along the way:
- Cathedral Peak, Northeast ridge
- Cathedral Peak, Southwest chimney
- The Bell, Hooper's route
- Mponjwane, Standard (Thomson's) route (probably with S-crack end variation)
- Sentinel, Angus-Leppan route.
Our rough plan is to spend 2 or 3 days on the Bell Traverse, 1 day travelling to Mponjwane, 1 day climbing it, 2 days travelling to the Sentinel and 1 days climbing it and and hiking down to RNNP or the Sentinel Car Park.
What is the most effective method of transport to get back to Cathedral Peak from there?

Gollum - sounds like an awesome trip! Be sure to post some pics afterwards
I'll be mountain-bike touring in the extremely Southern Berg - i.e. the Lady Grey/Rhodes/Lundean's Nek area. 6 days... Can't wait!

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

@gollum: sounds like you are slacking off there. I would have added at least the Inner Mnweni Pinnacle and the Icidi Pencil to that itinerary!
I'm thinking of getting out to Rhino Pass at Garden Castle, or some of the lesser-knowns at Cobham, but only over the second long weekend. Anyone keen to join?

That's actually a lekker idea gollum. I may just be right there on that weekend - I have a friend who is considering driving from Cape Town and we might do some passes in QwaQwa based from Sentinel Car Park. I dont have any confirmed plans at this moment and I'll have see is he is going to make it and what his time-line is.

If anyone was on the escarpment between Thomathu Pass and Sani Pass over the weekend, I'd be interested to hear if they encountered 2 young American girls who were attempting it on their own? I had a brief chat to them at Thomathu Cave, but couldnt help feeling a bit concerned for them. I just hope they didnt have any issues with security, navigation or weather, as they didnt seem like they were quite as prepared as they could have been...

Got back from the 'berg last night after a 4 day hike in the Cathederal area. We were blesed with good weather, but the wind was a bit strong yesterday and the day before. Tseke pass was hell on the knees. Half the pass got washed away and to follow the path everywere was inposseble. So we had to bivi in the pass just under the Column. I have been down easier rock passes. My wife busted her knee up badly on the lower sections of the pass, but we got out and she will have it checked out today. But all in all it was a exelent trip. The view from Cleft peak was awsome. Could see everything from the Tooth to Monks Cowl. Cant wait to go back. On a side note. There is also a lot of pine trees on the lower sections of Tseke pass and the hut is in a bad state. No windows and the wood from the floor is used to close the windows. The structure is still sound. Will post some pics soon.
