What time does the Village Bakery (I may be mistaken with the name), on the way to Monks Cowl open on a Saturday ?
Carbo-loading is an important part of an endurance athletes plans and need to be taken very seriously:laugh:

Stijn looks so skinny after the Grand Traverse I think he's the one that needs cream doughnuts!
When are you going Magan? There is apparently an unmarked cave in Eagle Gorge somewhere which I havent found yet. If you stumble across it, let us know.

Valley Bakery serves excellent Danishes and cheesecake. Rather a pleasant place for tough, mean and foul smelling hikers to have a spot of tea.
Which meant, I just couldnt wait to get hiking in the Berg again and left the visit to after the hike.

The drive from Winterton to MC has that touristy feel to it. Not good.

A super hike !! Paul & I hiked off to Zulu cave with great views towards Cathkin, Sterkhorn. Quite a few dayhikers. Surprised to meet another group of 3 at the cave one of whom a gent who has been hiking in the Berg since 1967 !! Obviously an interesting conversation with him.
Day 2 saw us hide our packs (watch out for those crows that hang about the cave) and head straight to and left up Intunja. Stunning stunning views !!! We reluctantly made our way back down, left towards an obvious ‘bump’ and on joining the contour path a small set of cairns found a vague path that led us on a much easier descent to Zulu cave. The crows had snacked on Paul’s foam mattress. Thankfully that was the extent of our damage. Day 3 found heavy cloud cover scupper plans to attempt Sterkhorn, instead lead to an easy stroll and early afternoon snooze at the lovely campsite at the base of Sterkhorn. A gentle little brook (to steal Paul’s word) ran alongside the campsite which is situated within some trees. Later that afternoon brought some more threatening clouds and on the 1st heavy drops the tent was up in a flash. Continuous rain meant supper in the tent. There’s something so comforting having a hot meal in a dry tent when it’s pelting down outside (big up to Ferrino Blow !). Rain only subsided around 11pm. The hike back on Tues was thro heavy mist and that disappointing feeling of a Berg hike coming to an end. Well lower down came across a Canadian couple who wanted our pic for a travel mag. Bring on fame !! Later, that much awaited stop at Valley Bakery.
