Grand Traverse Record Race

Thanks for the update Andrew! I wonder how many people (including myself) actually realise how much it takes to attempt something like this.

The Merrell Adventure Addicts, South Africa's top AR team, initiated 2 new members by taking them on a fast Grand Traverse this past week. Showing some true AR-style grit, despite some terrible weather, they completed it in a time of 78h58m.

That gives Robyn Kime the fastest time ever for a lady (beating Christine Harris' 2010 record of 110h57m, set with Carlos Gonzales) and also breaks the mixed team record (same as above).

It seems to be the year of smashing previous records - first the men's record, now the lady's.

Just spoke to Robs now - without the poor weather necessitating a 8 - 9 hour stop they'd have been even faster!

Ryno Griesel and Linda Doke just started their attempt at the mixed-team DGT record this morning at 2:45am. They are aiming to break the time set by the Merrell Adventure Addicts which is 78h58m (scroll up in this thread for details).

Looking good so far - 6 hours in and they are already halfway through day 3 of a non-speed GT.

Cleft Peak, 55km, 11h09m. They're moving well!

As a comparison, Ryan & Ryno hit Cleft in 8h40m. So Linda & Ryno are on for a sub-60h time if they maintain this relative pace. Plenty to go still though..
