Help and updates in using the forum

@Stijn: IE is a notorious pain for web developers. Those particular buttons and the emoticon bar are dependant on certain JavaScript libraries loading properly. This problem might go away with the general site upgrade (the blank preview box is also a script problem and will go away after the upgrade). On the other hand, the developers of the various software components running on this site will also stop supporting older browser versions eventually. Does anyone have this problem in IE 9?

This site generally runs quite smoothly in the latest versions of Chrome and FireFox. If you experience any weird problems of this nature, then try those browsers.

It is already a sticky in it's category. It cant appear at the top of every post though. The link to here is also included in the Help page which you access by clicking on the Help tab.

I can confirm that I managed to reproduce Stijn's problem in the latest version of Firefox now too. Works in Chrome though. Until this is fixed and you have this problem, send me a PM if you need help uploading any files or images.

Current status for attaching pics is: use Internet Explorer 9 or Google Chrome. Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 are not working currently - the Insert button doesn't appear. I have not tested Safari or Opera in this regard. If you are struggling to attach images, then post the text part and email me the images - chris at this site name, and I'll help. This will be the arrangement until the site has been upgraded.

I have been testing the new software, and everything seems to be working fine again with that.

An appeal to our members for a little help: if you notice in older forum posts from approximately 2007-2010 that there is an image missing where there should be one, please hit the "Report to moderator" link of that post so we can fix it. This seems to have been caused by a bug in the older software versions running at that time. We are fine-combing these but it will help if you report them too.

Also, for getting help attaching an image to a post, please create your post first with your text in it and then hit the "Report to moderator" link on it. A moderator will contact you and arrange for your pictures to be sent to them via email so they can upload them for you.

Some of the image-upload woes have hopefully been fixed. I can attach images to a post using FireFox 30.0, Chrome 35.0 and IE 10.0 on my computer. Can some others please confirm that the image attachment buttons are now working properly again?

Just an update on current settings for image uploads. The max file size is now at 3MB which I think will make life easier for everyone. There are no constraints on the image dimensions, but anything larger than 1500 x 800px will be automatically down-scaled to that.

If you do not have a good internet connection, avoid simultaneous multiple image uploads if the file sizes are 2-3MB. And if you find at times that the site is timing out or taking too long, then also avoid simultaneous uploads. You can edit a post and add more pics to it afterwards.
