Home Page and Footer Links revamp

We are looking at consolidating the information available on this site, as well as making the information quicker and easier to find. Part of the consolidation will be through the introduction of a cataloging feature mentioned in January. The catalog feature will also make things quicker to find, but we also want to revamp our home page and possibly the footer section containing the quick links.

I would like to hear from both our new and our regular members what they like and don't like about the home page. What links and content should be featured on the home page to help people find information more easily? Bear in mind we want to help people that are new to the Berg/mountains, as well as members who browse this site regularly for updates. What improvements could there be in the layout? It has already been suggested to me that the list of new forum posts could be shorter, so think along these lines too. If you would link links added or changed in the footer section too, please let me know.
