Would anyone know if it is possible to hike up that mountain? We went up with the cable car a while back and it looked like there was an alternative path up (its possibly only for maintenance).

Yes there is a hiking trail which more or less follows the cableway. There are also 2 sport-climbing crags on the way up. These are off the hiking trail though.
