Flash floods
I've been on two different rivers where the level rose a metre in under 5 minutes here in the Western Cape. Steep mountains with a big catchment - scary stuff. I've had a friend standing in a dry river bed when it came down like a wall I am told...about 800mm high, but still plenty to knock you down. And a chap in Columbia was sleeping on a ledge several metres up from the river when the river rose super fast. Mark died that day, his mate made it:
