Anyone keen to hike this weekend
My hiking partner let me down this afternoon, anyone keen to join me on a hike this weekend (3,4,5 August )?
My plan is to park at Garden Castle on Friday afternoon, head up towards Sleeping Beauty Cave and spend the night there, up early Saturday morning and tackle Bollard, once at the top spend some time exploring the escarpment, camp up there on saturday night, then Sunday morning head across towards Rhino and spend some time up on rhino before descending Mashai pass and back to garden Castle.

Wish I could join, but I really can't go to the Berg 2 weekends in a row, I am also not a big fan of escarpment camping in winter - hence the insane day hikes I do in winter...

@Ghaz, of course you can go 2 weekends In a row, why don't you like escarpment camping? Is it the cold or just something you don't enjoy?
On a different note, is the record for the GT still 3 days 19hrs 52min? My mate is keen to have a crack at it next year.

Ghaz, have you done the walk up there? It seems a nice little test, 400m ascent in 1.8km

Its completely the cold! Well also partially the heavy pack due to the extra stuff you need in winter - multiday summer hikes are awesome, you don't even need to take thermal underwear, so that's about 1kg off the packs right there...
I may be able to do something day hike-ish on Saturday, but definitely not multi-day.
GT: The record is 60 hours and some change, so that's 2d12h and some change. I am not the best person to give advice on speed GT records, but you should definitely do at least an 8 day GT before trying the speed record. Lots of the speed record is done at night, so its best to kind of know what the route looks like beforehand, as well as the fact that you learn a lot on a GT.

I haven't done Inhlosane before, its on my to do list along with Giboa and table mountain (as in the Valley of 1000 hills one, not the Cape Town one). Where do you start the hike from?

We're starting from Everglades Country Hotel, it's right below it. Was just pure luck that my wife booked us there for a night, we had never heard of Inhlosane until looking at the hotels attraction listghaznavid wrote:
