Amphitheater / Mont Aux Sources - Food stash

05 Jan 2016 15:57 #66290 by Dude
We were on a recent hike to the top of the Amphitheater.

Before the trek downwards, we had a lot of non perishable food left in our packs and decided to stash it for use by hikers doing the hike after us.

The co-ordinates are S28.75002 E 028.88613
It is in a bouldery area on the lower slope of Beacon Butress. close to the river path.

Enjoy the hike

Dude!

We're probably on our way up there this weekend.
We'll be sure to have a gander at what you've left for us! haha

Will be very interesting to see if anyone gets to the stash before the baboons and/or crows.

The issue of food stashes probably warrants further discussion.

make a difference. today.

I am big on Leave No Trace.
Once had a mini-fallout with a member of another hiking group's smoker when he flippantly flicked his finished cigarette but into some nearby bushes. Luckily his hike lead appeared and set him straight.

Two exceptions to leave no trace:

1. Leaving food caches in a responsible manner
- animal proof
- pollutant free
- not easily moved by nature (pref not at all)
- not a fire hazard
- easily found by intended recipients
- not a long term cache
- whenever possible, leave food caches in overnight huts as opposed to random X.Y coordinates

2. Responsible Geocaching
- see the Geocaching forum entry on this site

Hey everyone

Thanks for all your comments.

@Ale. I hope you can make use of the items.

I am also big on keeping nature pristine. the stuffs we left can be used by next persons. we did not leave any trash though. (even picked up cigarette butts etc.)

@Coeta. Thanks for the tips on leaving a food cache. I will keep that in mind next time.
