Sunseeker Cadac Isodome 2 For Sale - Brand New
Tent has been erected to check that all is there, but never used.
It must be the last of these tents in SA, as they were discontinued many years ago.
I want R3000 for the tent. You're welcome to contact me on 0845097511. Lance.

Really fantastic tents in their day, and when they went off the market I was sorry I had never got one. Fifteen years ago I would have loved to have one of these, but aren't that keen on carrying a 4.5 kg tent anymore.

Really good condition with aluminium poles, flysheet and tent. No tears. This tent is proper and can really handle the unpredictable berg conditions and winds. Am selling because I am looking at a lighter tent. Want R1950 for it. Contact me on 0845097511.
4.5kg is more than the entire weight I usually carry, excluding food, water and the empty pack weight

Be thankful that technological advances have benefitted you to carry such a lightweight pack in your youth. I was older than you are now when I did a GT carrying a whole Isodome tent the entire way, and for the entire GT my pack probably wasn't ever under 20 kg. I can only guess at what I could have achieved if lighter gear had been available then.

Unquestionably - I was reading the section on Brian Godbold in Encounters with the Dragon yesterday. It seems odd that, in the early 30's, it was generally thought you could not survive a night on top with snow in winter - but if one considers that they didn't have modern 850 fill down sleeping bags, 5 R-value mattresses and dual-wall tents with built-in ground sheets - it does make sense.
I would say the likes of Reinhold Messner have made a massive difference to how mountaineering in general is approached, especially in terms of gear. Not so relevant in the Berg, but the shift from siege style to Alpine style by many top mountaineers in the greater ranges changed so many factors. I seem to recall a stat of 1.5 tons of gear being needed for the first ascent of the Rupul Face of Nanga Parbat in 1971, by contrast to Reinhold Messner's solo speed ascent of Everest on which he had assistance of only one porter and no proper base camp support.
