Trail range by Mr Price Sport

Has anyone given any item in the "Trail" range by Mr Price Sport a good test in the outdoors? I've noticed some of their clothing on the shelves and it actually looks like it could be reasonably good, at a substantially cheaper price. I have a type of soft shell jacket of theirs which I've been wearing casually. It looks good. Also been eyeing their technical pants which I'm considering getting for day trips so I don't wear out all my other ones. They are going for R180.

I suspect some of their gear may wear out quicker than other brands, but at that price it may be worth it.

About 2 years ago I bought I trail sleeping bag for around R99 to use in mid summer. Very small, very light, and still going strong! B)

I like the sound of R180 hiking pants, they have to be pretty bad to not beat the R600 FA or Cape Storm pants that I have been looking at! I have been hiking in Mr Price bottom of the range R50 cotton pants. They are fairly heavy, but have lasted very well and they are very warm for pants to sleep in...

Is that the all black one, or red 'n grey one?

I have the black one. Been worn to death and still going strong. Think it was about 195 bux.
Closes equivalent from Cape Onion Market was in the region of 500 bux.
Probably all out of the same Chinese manufactory!!!

@ST2: I have the black one too - its just a shell. I've seen a thicker version on the shelves too (micro-fleece type liner) but its not that one. I picked mine up for around R115 on special. As is my custom with various other items, I'm wearing it casually until its a little older and then I start wearing it in the mountains.

That sounds like all of us hikers. Casual wear is usually resplendently topped off with some form of new hiking wear.

Last weekend I was dragged into Osmans ( I really hate that place) and as bribery payment I was bought a new headlamp which cost R22.00 and some walking poles. There was a bigger option on the headlamp which was R33.00. Tonight I popped into Mr.Price sports and saw this exact same headlamp which was just in different packaging, branded " Trail." The one which I got from Osmans was about R75.00 and the larger one was over R100.00 I think. I thought that "Trail" would have been a manufacturer but it's just branding. So I suppose at times trail might be okay gear and other times it might be poor. I've bought their stuff before and I like it, but I really inspect the gear well before I buy it.

This weekend we went hiking wiht some "newbies" (I saw that lightly as we are newbies ourselves, only our second overnight hike) and they bought a pack from the Mr Price "Trail" range. When he picked the bag up to take to the car the strap broke - managed to sew it back together and it lasted for the trip. Just a warning to make sure the stitching seems secure before embarking on a trip, can you imagine the strap had snapped half way through the hike?

Shame, that sucks that something new broke straight away. Suppose it's another reason to inspect every trail item completly before buying. Maybe you can buy a new strap and clip from cape union mart? I think they have k-way ones in a pack for cheap.

HA! Good ol Mr P. Last week I got some fleece track suit pants(trail range) from MR P. Didn't have time to try them on so just got the small(waist 32). When I got home & tried them on the legs were a good rulers length too long.

The only man I can imagine would fit into those pants is an Ethiopian basketball player...
