I just thought I would give some info on "Backpacker", as most people aren't even aware that they still exist.

"Backpacker" is now an online store situated in Pretoria, South Africa. They sell packs and other outdoor equipment. One can go to the factory and try on packs. I did this and found them to be extremely helpful.

Irusa Vorster, the production manager showed me around. She was very clued up about the products they offered and could show me how to adjust my pack properly. I even loaded it up with some weights and stomped around the place to get a better feel of the pack. She knew all about the different colours and material options and showed me examples of each. Highly helpful with top quality customer service.

All online orders receive free delivery within South Africa. I'm not sure about their other products, but the pack I was looking at comes with a lifetime guarantee (including zips) against manufacturing defects.

I have only heard of good reports concerning Backpacker products. Many people would swear by their Backpacker packs.

All in all, I was extremely impressed. :) Obviously the true test will be once the product has actually been tested under the harshest conditions. ;)

Legend. Glad that they are still around. I think that 2/3 of all late 80's and 90's hikers were equipped with Backpacker gear. I hope they keep going strong.

I bought their AR balance 32litre pack from them 2 weeks ago. Very impressed with the quality and price. I'm sure a similar pack would be touching the 1000 buck mark at Cape Union.

Local is lekker!
