After 10 years of Alpine hiking my Asolo boot soles have started to come loose. Where in SA can I resole them with Vibram soles? Time is short , I'm leaving for a Himalaya trek on 29 March. I have only worn Asolos since I started hiking 29 years ago, so I don't want to buy other boots. Never had a blister, not in Appalachian, Himalaya, SA mountains etc.

Hi corlius and welcome to the forum.
Rocksole in Cape Town has been around forever and they officialy do Vibram soles. Obviously you will have to get your boots to them somehow.

Vertical World resoles climbing shoes. You can drop off shoes at the Wonderwall climbing gym in Joburg. I'm not sure if they do hiking boots and Vibram soles, but you could contact them and ask.

Hope you come right, and let us know how it goes.

I have tried to resole hiking boots and the soles lasted for almost one hike before they came off. The problem is that they are trying to fit a new sole that has a certain shape to a boot that has now taken on a different shape and the two don't fit quite hand and glove. The bible speaks about 'not putting new wine into old wineskins as it will burst it', so perhaps similar logic. The company will likely have a disclaimer about it potentially coming apart. In the end I had to buy a new set of boots anyway.
