For me, the starting point of any of those really exciting trips is the point where you get out a map and start working out where everything is and how the places all fit together.
When I came across this website in January, I got all excited:
www.himalayangpsmaps.com/en/
It took a while for me to actually commit and place the order, but I now have a shinny SD card that fits into my GPS, or, more usefully can be displayed on my larger laptop screen. One week later, and the majority of a 1300km route has been plotted. Such are the advantages of a routable map
I have to wait until September to really put the map to the test, but at this stage at least, I can recommend it

But the question remains - how many 5000+m peaks is Andrew shooting for

Hi Andrew
Are you going to do a 1300km hiking trip in die Himalayas?
That will make a Drakensberg grand traverse look like a happy meal!

Officially none.
I intend to cross about 20 passes of 5000m or higher at speed so will need to acclimitise first. And, as the overall objective is to have fun, I am sure a few peaks will sneak in.
I fly into Kathmandu on 17 Sep, and depart somewhere in November (read: aim to be fit for Skyrun). On 8 October, the MCSA is aiming to get as many people on summits as possible. So, I have given in will have a shot at Meru Peak.
Then, about a week later, I should be in Western Nepal, all ready for a long haul east.
