The cinematography and storytelling is really something. I have probably watched it like 5 times already.

It's really motivating to push yourself to a point and then just abit beyond.
All my hikes and trips are child's play compared to this, I am getting an itch to get into climbing now.

Do yourself a favour and get Messner's book "The Naked Mountain" - it includes a bivy without gear above 8000m! Meanwhile we moan when it is cold when we get out of our sleeping bags! The book is about the first ascent of Nanga Parbat's Rupul Face, they did it in the 70's and, to date a similar route has seen 2 other group repeats, but no one has managed to repeat the Merkyl Couloir. It was also done without supplemented oxygen, and only the second time an 8000m peak was climbed by one route and descended by another. It is a really hectic story.

Hear hear!
Where do one start though? I'm from Pretoria and were rather deprived of mountains here. Don't know if they do in the Magaliesberg?

I have found a few climbing gyms in Pretoria though.

There is plenty climbing in the Magalies and your best option would be to contact the guys at the Magalies section of the Mountain Club. Here is a link to their site: www.mcsamagalies.co.za/
I'm sure they will be glad to take you on one of their outings to give you a taste of the climbing scene.
Be warned though, as it is highly addictive.
