Hiking Mount Rinjani - Lombok, Indonesia

I'm going to be going on honeymoon to Bali and Lombok in May this year. Lombok is far less commercial than Bali - it's apparently what Bali was like 10 to 15 years ago. Perfect :-D

One of the attactions is Gunung Rinjani, Indonesia's second highest peak, with a hikable summit at 3726m. A google image search is all that's required to explain why I want to hike it! The missus-to-be needs a bit more persuading - I think she got put off by the "active volcano" part

So, has anybody here hiked it? I'm finding it difficult to find an idea of just how steep a hike it is - obviously everyone says that you need to be fit in order to do it, but relative to what? Personally I don't think it's going to be impossible, especially seeing as porters will carry pretty much all of your food and equipment, but I'd still like to chat to someone who's done it, if possible.

If someone who lives in Joburg has hiked it, there may be beer involved :-P
