On Saturday 16 May 2015, various Friend groups as well as the Adopt Moreleta Spruit group organised a guided hike of 12 km along the Moreleta Spruit which included the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve. It was a really wonderful morning and one of the most interesting hikes I have been on. The terrain was partly urban (with graffiti-ed bridges) and partly veld, and the contrast between the two made for a unique experience. Below are a few pictures of the hike.

This image is hidden for guests.

The hike started at 7:30 am

This was the first of many bridges that needed to be navigated

We crossed the Spruit several times

Stepping stones had been positioned by Friend groups in some of the wider areas of the Spruit

The bridge in the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve provided an easy way to cross the Spruit

There was some truly impressive graffiti in the larger bridge tunnels

There was even a very minor bit of boulder-hopping

Some of the seldom seen areas of greenbelt had unexpected surprises - like this disused bridge from 1928

I recently made a video review of the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve. If you would like to watch it, you can find it here:

Admin, please let me know if posting these videos on this forum is allowed (I suppose that technically I am advertising my youtube channel). If it is not allowed, I will happily take it down :)

Thanks for your consideration. I don't see that any of this is profit driven. In addition it promotes conservation. So it seems fine to me.

In cases where something like this is profit driven, or linked in some way to a commercial endeavour, it is a form of advertising and would not be permitted on VE unless a prior arrangement with me has been made. VE does seek to generate income through advertising as a way of sustaining the amount of time it takes to run the site and some of the projects that VE is involved in. This approach also keeps things for free for members of the site. If anyone is unsure about something that they intend posting, please feel free to check with me via PM or email first. Each case is considered also on the merits of what value the content may add to the site, and what the cause or purpose of the content is. In my to-do list is the formulation of policies and guidelines addressing this kind of thing, along with how VE relates to organisations and companies, so more will posted on this at a later point in time.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.
