After a long period of hard work behind the scenes, thought I’d give a little glimpse of what we have planned for this site. It may have seemed like a quiet period on the outside but we’ve been hard at work.

Since December 2007 countless hours have been spent working behind the scenes. Some changes you may have noticed, such as new features, or changes in the graphics. But most changes will go largely unnoticed since they are not readily visible. They are changes that will ultimately ensure an ongoing, positive user experience and a lasting platform on which to build.

But as that period now draws to a close, more attention will be given to writing more articles for our visitors.

In response to queries for info on Drakensberg caves and passes – we have taken note, and yes, we will start posting information and descriptions on caves and passes which will help you plan your upcoming hike. In addition you can look forward to a growing list of Khulus, and our commitment to supplying security related information and GPS data will continue of course. In addition there are several other projects in the pipeline which we hope you will enjoy when they get published. We hope that the Drakensberg forum will continue to grow as a vital catalyst in sharing info and in getting the Berg community talking to each other.

Much attention will be given to the Nepal and Tibet sections in the coming weeks and months. Expect to see more trekking itineraries and info on the Trekking Peaks and other mountains of interest, such as Everest. We’ll also supply information that will help you prepare for a trekking / climbing trip to the Himalayas. For the GIS and Google Earth junkies, there will also be some downloads available in time. We’ll probably throw in some extras on culture and sights & sounds other than mountains. Our commitment to inform and discuss any issues relevant to tourists, trekkers and climbers is ongoing and our aim is to launch forums that will assist in this. Recent political turmoil in these countries are issues close to our hearts.

There will also be some new features added soon that we hope will make your interaction with the site easier and more enjoyable.

You may have noticed the option to subscribe to newsletters in the registration page and in the editing screen of your profile. These newsletters will be aimed at keeping you informed of updates to the website and any special projects that Vertical Endeavour is engaged in. For those that prefer getting RSS-based updates, feeds from our forums and for new articles will be available soon.

In addition to the downloadable Google Earth files we have available, you will soon be able to view relevant places of interests, such as peaks, on a satellite/map image directly from our site.  We’re also looking at setting up an online shop, to sell items that are related to the content on this site.

Depending on interest and relevance, we are also considering setting up personal blog and gallery space for our registered users. We’d like very much to hear from you, the user, in this regard. We appreciate all kinds of feedback, positive or negative, and are committed to developing a site that is relevant and resourceful.

Thank you to all that have written to us or participated in the forums. It’s been a pleasure to correspond with you. It’s one of the things that makes all the work worth it. Please feel free to write to us anytime.

Well, that’s it for now folks. Hope the message has come across that ve.com is alive and well! Visit again soon.
