Cool, I thought so after the replies, but I originally thought the dispute was which of the Mount Amery summits was the peak, now I see what the discussion was actually about :)

Ok, so looking at this photo I am curious as to how easy this will be to climb. It seems as though there might be some scrambling routes via the rockbands.

Reason for asking is because I intend doing this somewhere in June / July, but only if the climb requires moderate (or less) scrambling with no ropes.

Anyone climbed this recently who might provide more insight?

Easy scramble, no ropes needed. Its a grade B scramble because its not a plain grass slope. Enjoy.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a 1km effort shadow. Do you have any references for it.

Apologies for going off topic.

I realise this is an old thread but I came across it preparing for a trip.

Anyway, I found the following sketches in some early 70's books which corroborate the popular opinion and might be of some general interest.

The first two are from a 73 edition "Barrier of Spears" and the third from a 74 edition of Doyle P Liebenberg's "The Drakensberg of Natal"

Enjoy.

Chatted to Malcolm Pearse today. He has confirmed that this is in fact Mount Amery (i.e. the map is wrong):
