Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

That diagonal gully across the face looks interesting doesn't it? Not sure if its been climbed. The interesting thing about this peak is that it is among South Africa's highest peaks, yet it's relatively unknown. Have uploaded another picture of the face viewed from kaNtuba Pass here:
www.vertical-endeavour.com/gallery/drakensberg/peaks/khulus-above-3300m/193-kantuba-buttress.html
There are two, tall Basotho cairns on the summit - amazing view from there across the remote Mangaun and kaNtuba valleys. Obviously from the escarpment side, its just a short slog up a grassy dome.
Have uploaded a pic of kaNtuba Pass here:
www.vertical-endeavour.com/gallery/drakensberg/passes/194-kantuba-pass.html
It has 2 forks, much like Ships Prow in a way, and I've measured both summits to be just over 3300m - making them among the highest passes in the Berg (the map indicates 3250m, but actual contours at the waypoint contradict this). This picture also brings out the diagonal gully across the face too.

Wow, this is for sure my new project.. question regarding KaNtuba pass difficulty. Stijn's Xls spreadsheet description reads -> "Steep; Rocky; May require rope" for the actual KaNtuba pass. Is this accurate?
That diagonal gully looks AMAZING and has an air of Nepal to it, and am pretty sure that gully will require "rope"
PS: those winter shots are inspiring

Have not done the pass myself. Have looked up it and down into it. No trail from what I can see. The summit of the alternate south fork has a stone wall system used for kraals.
My feeling is that it is comparable to Ships Prow South Fork: probably a bouldery and bushy approach from the contour path (not sure whether quite as bad), followed by very steep, grassy, but "clean" slopes once you are on the pass itself. Very comparable to Ships Prow South Fork in length and altitude.

A very old thread, but anyway...
Myself and Hobbit spent a good 20 minutes staring at this monster peak from just south of KaNtuba Pass on New Years Eve. We both agreed that, with a lot of planning, you probably could find a line that goes with little or no scrambling. The arete in this photo also looks like it wouldn't be too steep:
Anyway - on the topic of KaNtuba Pass, anyone have any info on it? DaveG's photos on his website make it look pretty straightforward, and looking down it, it seems like an easy grass pass (well, easy for a pass with vertical 1.4km). He gives it "average" difficulty.

Did this pass over 30 years ago, found the south side easy. Heard it is now a main smugglers route.
