why would Trenchers cave be on the map, if it was not reasonably accessible ??

There's probably a useful difference between 'reasonably accessible' and 'hard to find'. Fangs Cave, for example, is accessible, but for me was hard to find (lying up a gully away from the main pass). We don't know whether Trenchers is accessible but it does seem hard to find. Then again, it may be 'hard to find' because the convenience of Bell Cave's has meant that not many have tried to look for it. I've thought about looking for it much more than I have actually looked for it!

Other way to find Trenchers is to get a lift with the Air Force and take photos of that side of Cath Peak and see if you can see any posabilities or even a faint path. I tried Google Earth but it is all but clear.

Magan, you can't even book Trencher's Cave at Didima Camp. So it's one of those mystery caves that only a few people seem to know about, and I'm guessing it has simply just been left on the maps because it doesn't harm anyone (except for a few desperate hikers that try and find it  ).

A helicopter ride would be great, and if you had enough time up there you'd probably be able to see it from the helicopter.

Again, my guesses for further attempts to locate it would be somewhere along the the North East Ridge climbing route, or around the back side of the final summit dome that's infront of you when you scramble up the standard route. The 2 arrows very roughly correlate with the ones in the previous pic.

I had another go at looking for Trenchers Cave over Easter this year...and guess what I found...yet another 2 man rat hole filled with Dassie poo! So, over several searches adding up to several hours, all I have found is two such holes and a bunch of droppings.

This time I looked around the base of the summit cone. We summited the peak at dusk and so I only a limited amount of time and it was dark.

I noticed that the Irwin's Field Guide to the Drakensberg lists the cave to be at an altitude of 2640m which changes the scope entirely.

The search continues...
