The crown jewels of Sehlabathebe (Aponogeton ranunculiflorus), when is the best time to see these in flower?

I looked it up in my copy of Else Pooley's Mountain Flowers, and it make a short reference about the flowers being out in January. Thats all I know.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Thanks, my book only mentions that they exist... Always keep an eye open for Else's book but have yet to find a copy - apparently it's out of print.

Are these the so-called crown jewels? Those tiny white water flowers? Taken in January 2013.

@plouw: I would think those flowers are indeed the Crown Jewels. They only occur in the area. Elsa Pooley's Mountain Flowers reads:

Leaves submerged, in tufts, quill-like, rooted on the floor of pools. Inflorescence like a single, white, cup-shaped flower +- 25mm diam, floating on surface, attached by a long threadlike stalk to submerged plant (Jan).

I moved your trip report to its own thread here (great pics by the way).

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.
