Book - Catching the Light

Hi forum

I am pleased to be able to invite all of you to have a look at my book entitled 'Catching the Light'.

The book has been published through an on line printing company called Blurb. Whilst it does make the book expensive, it is the only way at present that I am able to publish my story of the Drakensberg.

The book has been twenty years in the making, and follows my photographic and hiking journey through these mountains. It does not provide a blow by blow account of all my trips, however I have included ones that I thought were note worthy. The images follow the seasons starting with Autumn and as each season unfolds, the images splash the pages with their specific colour palette. I have also interwoven the story with some personal and philosophical views of mountains and the reasons for going up there, and some hilarious stories as well.

I suppose the books main story as seen through the images, is the constant striving for excellence in the art of scenic photography and the attempt to capture the nuances of light that fall on this beautiful part of the world. You can navigate to the book by following the link below.

Enjoy

I have flipped through the online preview and am very impressed. Getting photos like that together takes many years, and I really enjoy the way they are presented in the book! Be sure to take a look, everyone, and consider getting a copy of the book.

For those of you not familiar with Karl Beath, he is an accomplished, professional photographer. His material has been published in various Getaway editions, and in the revised Barrier of Spears. He is an active member of this online community (2 time winner of our Featured Images competition) and many of his splendid Berg shots can be viewed on this site (browse to his profile and click on the Gallery tab).

A big applause to Karl, well done!

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Thanks guys. The book took about 16 months to put together with proof reading by my wife and Brad aka ST2. So a big thanks to them as well.

I am not making anything on the book as I think that it is expensive enough as it is, given the once off nature of the printing, and also the value of the R vs $.
