Herbert Liddle climbed in the Drakensberg in the early 1900s. His nickname was "Oompie" and Mount Oompie is named after him. However, he also climbed extensively in the Cape Cederberg where he was eventually killed by a spider-bite, probably a six-eyed crab spider. In the Cederberg there is an Oompiesberg and an Oompie se Kop. Does anyone know whether the latter have any connection with Liddle?
