Rad places to stay

Rad places to stay was created by Richg
Hey guys

A bunch of my mates and I are looking to do a longish stint in the berg in our July varsity holidays. I was wondering if anyone has come across some good places to stay for a very reasonable price? Our (vague) plan is to hike a few days then crash at a comfortable B & B (or something similar) for a night or two to recover, then head out again. We haven't decided where we want to explore yet so the options are wide open - southern, central or northern Berg.

Have any of you had really good experiences anywhere?

Thanks!

cool, my recommendations:

definitely check out:
www.amphibackpackers.co.za/
- probably the funkiest place to stay near the berg, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, large bar, and food to order - and close to Royal Natal National Park in Northern Berg I was there for their new years party  .

close by is the famous Tower of Pizza (also with B&B accomodation):
www.towerofpizza.co.za/

A bit further south (still in Northern Berg) near Monks Cowl is:
www.inkosana.co.za/

Central Drakensberg (you drive through Nottingham Road/Rosetta) - near Kamberg, Highmoor and Giants Castle is:
mountainsshadows.yolasite.com
- this is self catering but tops for shared accomodation at a very good price

same area is Glengarry - a bit more pricey but also cool place to stay but also self catering:
www.glengarry.co.za/

Havent stayed much in Southern Berg self catering/B&Bs so sure someone else can fill in those gaps.

Giant's Cup Trail - southern Drakensberg, R75 per night including an overnight hiking permit. All huts include free fire wood, a place for a braai and a fireplace, running water and 2 of them (Swiman and I think the other is Pholela) even have electricity. They also come with mattresses on the beds. Yes they are the definition of roughing it as far as non-cave/tent accommodation goes, but they are closer to the mountains than most other places, Swiman Hut is well placed for a hike up the Hidden Valley, Rhino Peak, Bollard, Wilson, Tsepeng, or Mzimude Pass,
